MICHELANGELO Hi, I’m Winangelo. I am an ancient descendant of the legendary Renaissance man, Michelangelo. Michelangelo is a Renaissance sculptor and artist. I chose to write about him because he was an extraordinary man.
Michelangelo was primarily a sculptor, but his endless creative energy led him to also become a respected painter, architect and poet. He was a great leader for the Italian renaissance. His works aroused strong emotions in many spectators. He was important to the renaissance because he was one of the people who carved away for the endless stream of artists and sculptors who came through during the Renaissance. His most famous work is the Sistine chapel. It was done in four years between 1508 and 1512. It is located in Vatican City. It is an extraordinary work of art. Another one of his famous works is the statue of David. It is located in Florence. It is very big and took a whole year to sculpt. On December 7, 2007, Michelangelo’s sketch for the dome of St Peter’s Basilica was found. It is extraordinary as it shows how far ahead of his time he was. Michelangelo’s amazing achievements have shaped our world by many ways. One, St Peter’s cathedral is now the centre for the Catholic Church. St Peter’s was built by Michelangelo and contains his most famous work, the Sistine Chapel. Also, his works changed the way people looked at the world around them by arousing strong emotions inside them that focused them like a laser. That’s extraordinary!
